No hype. It's a very smart and fast charger. Takes the worry out of charging and using lithium batteries. Well designed and thoroughly thought out. Glad I didn't buy just a basic, unintelligent charger. Money well spent.Update; 6 months or so later it died the instant I plugged it in. Hardly ever used it. Came to find out that Ryobi warranty isn't honored unless purchased by a licensed dealer!! Found a video on YouTube shows how to fix it. Got mine working and replaced the bad part with one that can handle more power. Looks like I was wrong about the design being robust. There is an apparent design error. Easy to fix if you can solder. Suspect problem is widespread, but no way of knowing for sure.
